The winemaker
Luca Roagna, a visionary winemaker, has revolutionised viticulture with a deep commitment to sustainability and minimal intervention. Recognising the link between our well-being, the planet, and the soil, Roagna has embraced regenerative agriculture, allowing nature to flourish by avoiding tilling or mowing for over two decades. This approach fosters biodiversity and enriches the soil with essential micronutrients.
Roagna's environmental ethos extends to the winery, where 100% of their energy comes from renewable sources. Luca's dedication to mycorrhizae enhances soil vitality, and his innovative practice of planting grape pips ensures genetic diversity, allowing vines to adapt to climate change. This blend of tradition and innovation underscores Roagna's commitment to the future of winemaking.
The vintages
2023 - A classic vintage characterised by a dry summer. The resilience of old vines, supported by good water reserves, allowed for healthy canopies and optimal ripeness without any vine stress.
2022 - An early harvest for the whites helped preserve their freshness. This vintage is generous and concentrated, making it perfect for early enjoyment.
2019 - A vintage defined by energy and structure. Acidity plays a central role, balanced by firm tannins. It’s a very classic expression, with long maceration periods of up to two months.
2016 - A benchmark vintage, hard to surpass. Harvest began in mid-October, much like in 2019, marking another truly classic year.

This wine is made from a traditional indigenous variety grown in the estate-owned vineyards near the winery’s historic headquarters. The vines, over 50 years old, undergo a classic vinification process, which includes up to 100 days of submerged cap maceration.
The wine is then aged for a year in both wooden and concrete vats. While highly enjoyable when young, it also has excellent ageing potential, thanks to its origins in the limestone-rich, historic vineyards.
This wine is crafted from young vines, aged 20-25 years, all selected from the same vineyard’s massal origin. Fermentation, driven by indigenous yeasts in wooden vats, kicks off a 10-day journey before the wine undergoes the ancient submerged cap maceration technique for at least two months.
Aged to perfection in neutral oak barrels and concrete tanks for five years, this wine is a true testament to time-honoured tradition. With only 10,000 bottles produced each year, it’s a rare and exciting expression of pure craftsmanship, capturing the vibrant essence of its vineyard roots.
Hailing from Piedmont, this captivating white blend combines Chardonnay and Nebbiolo, the latter crafted as a `blanc de noir.`
The fermentation occurs solely in wooden vats, employing a pied de cuve from native yeasts and lasting approximately ten days. Following this, the wine matures in a neutral oak barrel for about two years.
The most recent white wine from the winery is crafted with the goal of producing an indigenous variety with outstanding aging potential. Made from Timorasso grapes, a historic variety from the Colli Tortonese, the grapes are carefully transported in small crates. After a short maceration in the press, the must is allowed to brown naturally, without the addition of sulphites.
Fermentation occurs in wooden vats using indigenous yeasts, and the wine is then aged on its lees for two years, resulting in a wine with remarkable depth, complexity, and longevity.
Pira is a legendary vineyard in Castiglione Falletto, nestled in the heart of Barolo’s prime production zone. This site is a dream come true for sustainable viticulture, where the rich soils thrive under careful, respectful cultivation. Protected by the majestic Rocche di Castiglione Falletto on one side and a serene forest on the other, it creates an ideal microclimate.
The vines, over 25 years old and of massal selection, are grown from cuttings taken from the very same vineyard’s ancient stock, ensuring a deep connection to its roots and tradition in every bottle.
This wine is crafted from a selection of the oldest vines in the Pira vineyard, a geographical mention owned exclusively by the winery. The soils, of marine sedimentary origin from the Helvetian era, are among the oldest in the Barolo region, spanning Castiglione Falletto, Serralunga d`Alba, and Monforte.
Pira’s soil composition, derived from the breakdown of the Rocche, features alternating layers of white limestone, grey marl, blue marl, and sand, rich in minerals like iron. Annual production is just 2,000 to 3,000 bottles.
This Barbaresco owes its impressive structure and extraordinary aging potential to the high concentration of active limestone in the soil. The vineyard, shaped like a natural amphitheatre, sits at an ideal altitude of 230 meters above sea level—an historic and perfect setting for vine cultivation.
The vines themselves average over 50 years in age, adding depth and character to this exceptional wine. With production limited to fewer than 7,000 bottles per vintage, it is truly a rare gem.
Crichet Pajé, named after the "high part of the small hill" ideal for growing Nebbiolo, is a wine rooted in tradition and precision. The Pajé refers to its specific geographic origin. After years of research and experimentation, Giovanni Roagna identified this exceptional terroir, creating a wine that needed extended aging to reach its full potential.
Initially kept as the Roagna family`s private reserve for special occasions, it was first introduced to the world in 1978 by Alfredo Roagna. Representing the pinnacle of the family’s winemaking, Crichet Pajé embodies complexity and remarkable longevity.
