Vosne Romanee Cros Parantoux Emmanuel Rouget 1996

HED63754 75cl 13%
Domaine Emmanuel Rouget Vosne-Romanée Cros Parantoux 1996 is a 1er Cru Burgundy Pinot Noir from the Côte de Nuits. Cros Parantoux is one of the most respected 1er Cru climats in Vosne - one considered by many to be a Grand Cru in all but name. Located above the Grand Cru of Richebourg, its reputation was forged by the great Henri Jayer, who began managing plots here in the early 1950s. Jayer employed his young tractor-engineer nephew, Emmanuel Rougeot, in 1976 and the rest is history. "Earthy, exceptionally ripe and slightly sombre on the nose with aromas that are just now beginning their transition from being completely primary to the first hints of secondary fruit nuances. The flavours are also ever-so-slightly austere but the intensity and purity are notable with first class elegance, superb detail and a driving, intense and relatively powerful finish. Extremely impressive and this should age for years. Tasted on multiple occasions with consistent notes." Burghound, 2018

Emmanuel Rouget

As with many of the great Burgundian wineries - the history of Domaine Emmanual Rouget is closely linked to other famous names in the Côte d'Or. The eponymous Emmanuel is the nephew of the legendary Henri Jayer, considered by many to have produced the greatest expressions of Pinot Noir in living memory. It was Uncle Henri that gave the young Emmanuel his first job in the world of wine and by 1996, he was producing wines from vineyards owned not only by Henri Jayer, but also Lucien and Georges Jayer.

Clearly inspired by his uncles' approach, Emmanuel (and now his son Nicolas) favours low yields and new oak for the top wines. The grapes are double sorted, once in the vineyard and once in the cellar before being de-stemmed and fermented after a temperature controlled pre-maceration - these are bold expressions of the Burgundian terroir with ripeness and oak influence to the fore.
