Christian Drouin Calvados Tasting with Alex Mermillod

Buy Ticket
£30 with £25 redeemable against any purchase of Drouin Calvados Wednesday, 25 March 2020 18.30 - 20.30

Calvados is one of the world's great spirits categories and sadly often over-looked. Distilled solely in Normandy in northern France, Calvados production represents the perfect marriage of agriculture, science and gatronomy. Distillers often keep orchards of over thirty different varieties of apples, carefully considering the sweetness, acidity and aromatics of each species before it is added to the final blend. Distillation takes place in small copper pot stills before long ageing in oak barrels before bottling.

Christian Drouin is one of the region's most famous names - a family-owned house established in 1960 that and is currently managed by the third generation. Pioneers in many senses, the Drouins have not only focused on producing very fine single vintage and blended bottlings of aged Calvados, but also on reviving lost styles such as "blanche de Calvados", experimenting with unusual barrel finishes and even producing an apple gin using un-aged apple brandy as the base!

We welcome Drouin's-own Alex Mermillod to Hedonism to host this fantastic showcase. Alex will be pouring six superb spirits from the Drouin portfolio including La Blanche, VSOP, XO and Hors d'Age. The tasting will finish with two very special single vintage bottlings from 1980 and 1970.
