Alheit Vineyards with Chris Alheit
Chris Alheit is considered by many to be one of South Africa's most dynamic young winemakers. A keen believer in the old maxim that "wine is made in the vineyard", each one of Chris' bottlings tell a story in every sense. Whether he is working with fifty year old dry-farmed bush vines or his own plantings of high-altitude Rieslings, maintaining the character of both the vineyard and vintage is considered of the utmost importance.
We are excited to have Chris himself present this exceptional tasting. Chris will talk about the trials and tribulations of his life as one of the Cape's most respected winemakers and also present a flight of eight different wines for guests to enjoy. Wines to be tasted include Flotsam and Jetsam Chenin Blanc 2017, Cartology 2018, Nautical Dawn 2018, Fire By Night 2018, Huilkrans 2018, Hemelrand Vine Garden 2015 and 2018 and Flotsam and Jetsam Cinsault 2017.
Tickets are priced at £40, fully redeemable against any purchase of Alheit Vineyards wines on the evening of the tasting.
Fernando de Castilla with Jan Pettersen
From the bone-dry freshness of an 'En Rama' Fino to the luxurious Hedonism of an unctuous PX, the wines of Jerez are undeniably some of the most varied and complex from anywhere in the wine world. Out of the many fine Bodegas in the so-called "Sherry Triangle" in Southern Spain few receive as much praise as Fernando de Castilla.
We are pleased to welcome Jan Pettersen to the store to present this fascinating tasting. Jan has worked with Fernando de Castilla for over twenty years and is credited with the revitalisation of the Bodega and its elevation to what many would consider to be Spain's greatest blender and bottler of fortified wines.
Jan will guide guests through a tasting of six fabulous Sherries including the un-filtered Fino en Rama, Antique series Fino, Amontillado, Oloroso and Palo Cortado before ending the evening with the deliciously indulgent Singular Pedro Ximénez.
We hope you can join us for what is set to the be a superb tasting with a true expert in their field.
Tickets are £30, fully redeemable against any purchase of Fernando de Castilla Sherry on the evening of the tasting.
Catena Zapata with Pedro San Martin
One of the oldest wineries in Argentina, Catena Zapata was founded in 1902 by Italian immigrant Nicola Catena. The last 117 years have seen Catena firmly establish itself as one of South America's greatest producers, almost single-handedly elevating Malbec from a minor blending grape to one of the world's most popular. The last few decades have seen the team at Catena focus heavily on promoting their superb single vineyard wines with a focus on showcasing the extraordinary and varied terroir of Mendoza.
Catena's-own Pedro San Martin will host the event, pouring and discussing six wines from the Catena Zapata portfolio. Wines to be sampled include Catena Alta Chardonnay 2016, Catena Alta Malbec 2015, Nicasia Vineyard Malbec 2014 and 2015 and Malbec Argentino 2014 and 2015.
