GB Burlotto Barolo Monvigliero 2011 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard Nebbiolo red wine from the Barolo appellation of northern Italy. Founded by Giovan Battista Burlutto in 1850, GB Burlotto is a renowned Bartolo producer based in the commune of Verduno. Founder Commandatore Burlotto pioneered various new winemaking techniques in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including longer macerations and larger oak casks for ageing. The wines of the property are much sought-after and renowned for their elegance, balance and ageability. This is a 100% Nebbiolo from vines grown across 2.02ha in Monvigliero. The vineyard is situated in the northern part of the Barolo area, not far from the Tanaro river. The wine is matured in Slavonian and Allier oak barrels for about three years. "In keeping with the style of the year, the 2011 Barolo Monvigliero is a bit fleshier and more overt than it usually is. The aromatic signatures are very much present though, accentuated by the inclusion of 100% whole clusters. At the same time, the 2011 offers gorgeous depth and resonance, not to mention superb overall balance. Savory herbs, olives and herbs inform the pungent finish. Burlotto`s Monvigliero remains one of the most distinctive and compelling wines being made in Barolo today. This is impressive juice." Vinous, 2015
