Solaia, distinct from its Sangiovese-based sibling Tignanello, is crafted primarily from the Cabernet Sauvignon grape on the same estate. The initial two releases in 1978 and 1979 were exclusively blends of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. The incorporation of Sangiovese occurred in subsequent vintages as Marchesi Antinori refined the wine. The 2014 vintage is extraordinarily plush and velvety. Very enjoyable, hedonistic style.
