Marcassin Hudson Vineyard Chardonnay 1993 is a mature-vintage single-vineyard Chardonnay produced by the Marcassin winery in Sonoma, California. Founded in 1991, Marcassin (French for ‘young wild boar’) is a tiny winery located on the Sonoma Coast that focuses solely on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Having either worked or consulted for some of the region’s finest wineries (e.g. Peter Michael, Colgin and Bryant), the supremely talented owner and winemaker, Helen Turley, is considered to be one of the most influential figures in Californian wine. The Hudson vineyard is located in the Carneros region of California. "The three 1993 Marcassin Chardonnays are profoundly complex, rich, super-concentrated Chardonnays that are neither heavy nor flabby. Bottled without fining or filtration, they are all extraordinary examples of this varietal. I utilize nearly all of my allocation each year in blind tastings with Burgundy experts, placing the Marcassin wines in vinous confrontations with France`s greatest Montrachets, Chevalier-Montrachets, Batard-Montrachets, and Corton-Charlemagnes. Most of the time the Marcassin wines run away with top honours."
