From Umbrian winery, Tenuta Lamborghini, the 1997 Campoleone is a blend of equal parts Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, aged for 12 months in new French oak. Tasting this wine in 1999, Robert Parker Jr remarked that it was a “tour de force in winemaking” with “uncanny balance and symmetry, as well as a staggering bouquet, flavour depth, and length.” He awarded it 97 points with a drinking window up until 2020. Bottled unfined and unfiltered, there may be some sediment and decanting may be advised.
