Umbria
Lying to the south of Tuscany, the landlocked Italian region of Umbria experiences a warm, semi-continental climate. For whites, key varieties include Grechetto and Fiano. Producers such as Marchesi Antinori are producing exquisite white blends from Chardonnay and Grechetto, such as the celebrated Cervaro della Sala with intense, complex notes of citrus fruit, pineapples and acacia blossom together with hints of vanilla and flint. For reds, enjoy exploring the region’s flagship variety, Sagrantino, producing deep coloured, tannic wines with concentrated red plum and blackberry character. Sangiovese and Merlot are also used to create exquisite reds from the likes of famed producer, Arnaldo Caprai.
