Contratto Barbaresco 1970 is a mature-vintage Nebbiolo red wine from the Barbaresco appellation of Piedmont, northern Italy. Contratto was founded in 1867 by Giuseppe Contratto and is known as the oldest producer of sparkling wine in Italy. The winery has a distinguished history, having been a wine supplier to the Vatican as well as to the Italian royal family. Although overshadowed by the spectacular 1971 vintage, 1970 was a generally excellent vintage in Piedmont, producing full-bodied and ripe-flavoured Nebbiolo wines with good ageing potential.
