Thorevilos has an elevation of 800 feet at its peak and is the only Abreu vineyard that is not situated in any of the numerous Napa Valley appellations. The 2008 vintage is a powerful blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 15% Petit Verdot. Dark red in colour and medium in body, the wine offers aromas of charcoal, leather, peppercorn and sage. Flavours include dried blueberries, cocoa powder, gravel, bay leaf, and crushed rosemary, with a persistent finish.
The 2008 Thorevilos is the one wine in this tasting that still needs time. Then again, that is Thorevilos. Dense, powerful and explosive, the 2008 packs a huge punch. Crème de cassis, blueberry jam, violet, lavender, chocolate and spice all meld together in dense, super-concentrated wine endowed with serious intensity. Vivid and outrageously beautiful, the 2008 Thorevilos dazzles today. Readers lucky enough to own it are in for a real treat. In 2008 Thorevilos is 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Cabernet Franc and 15% Petit Verdot. - Antonio Galloni

Abreu

Abreu

David Abreu established his eponymous winery in the 1980s, purchasing the Madrona Ranch and converting it into a mix of farmland and vineyards. The Thorevilos and Capella vineyards were added a few years later and Las Posadas, a Howell Mountain vineyard, was added to the estate's holdings in the year 2000. The result is something quite unique in Napa - a collection of distinct sites all producing world class, terroir-driven Cabernet Sauvignon.

Winemaker for the last 20 years is former chef turned viticulturist Brad Grimes. Brad keeps the focus of the estate firmly set on the founder's original goal - to emulate the finest wines of Pauillac and Margaux. Based on the long waiting list and never-ended near-perfect critic scores, he's hit a home run in that department.
