Rudd Estate was founded in 1996 and has rapidly garnered a reputation for producing exceptionally high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon based blends from their Oakville vineyards in the heart of the Napa Valley. The 2002 is a blend of 79% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Cabernet Franc, 6% Petit Verdot, 3% Merlot and 1% Malbec, built in the mould of the finest Left Bank Bordeaux and this delivers wonderful waves of classical crème de cassis, cedar, tobacco, smoke and spice. Rich, complex and now at peak for drinking, this would make a brilliant accompaniment to a juicy rib-eye steak.
