Owned by the Gratiot Alphandery family since 1893, Château Larcis-Ducasse is a Premier Grand Cru Classé B wine producer based in the Saint-Émilion appellation. The wine has been made by Nicolas Thienpont along with his chief winemaker David Suire since 2002, and quality has taken a visible step up during this time.The 2005 vintage is a vibrant wine, offering juicy bramble, cassis, blackberries and plum sauce flavours that are nicely backed up by floral and mineral notes. Drinking well now through 2030.

The 2005 Larcis Ducasse is blessed with one of my favourite bouquets with redcurrant, cranberry, orange zest and rose petal aromas - really effervescent and engaging. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent tannins, very harmonious and almost Burgundian with tobacco and cedar towards the structured and persistent finish. This is superb and it will give many years of drinking pleasure. Tasted at the Larcis Ducasse vertical in Bordeaux. - Neil Martin - The 2005 Larcis Ducasse is one of the great surprises of this retrospective of nearly two hundred 2005s. A wine of shocking intensity, power and structure, the 2005 is still an infant. Inky dark fruit, gravel, lavender, leather and spice all hit the palate. In the glass, the 2005 is marvelously deep, rich and dark. I am not sure if the tannins will ever fully soften, but so what? The 2005 Larcis Ducasse is an epic wine that shows just how magical this estate is. Superb.
