Château Mouton Rothschild is famous not only for the quality of its wines but also for the fact that it is the only property to be upgraded from its original 1855 Classification, attaining First Growth status from the 1973 vintage. The 1974 label artwork was by American artist, Robert Motherwell, and is a perfect example of his work, notable for its brooding black shapes that are somewhere between abstraction and calligraphy.
