Ridge Geyserville Half 2022 exhibits a deep ruby color in the glass, indicating its youthful vibrancy. On the nose, aromas of dark berries, such as blackberry and plum, are prominent, alongside hints of dried herb and subtle earthiness. The palate reveals a medium body with balanced acidity, showcasing flavors of black cherry and licorice, complemented by a touch of spice and a noticeable tannic structure that suggests potential for further aging.

Ridge Vineyards, established in the 1960s, is known for its commitment to sustainable farming and minimal intervention winemaking. Geyserville is a historic vineyard site, primarily Zinfandel with a blend of other varietals, aged in both American and French oak barrels. The 2022 vintage reflects the region`s warm climate, contributing to its ripe fruit character while retaining a sense of freshness and balance. This half bottle format offers an accessible option for those looking to enjoy a quality wine in smaller quantities.

- A blend of 67% Zinfandel, 20% Carignane, 10% Petite Sirah and 3% Mourvèdre, the 2022 Geyserville is packed to the gills with purple fruit and a ridiculous amount of spice—exotic spice, brown spice, baking spice, you name it. Blueberry, black plum, new leather, menthol and tobacco explode from the glass, all wrapped up in forceful, imposing tannins. A kick of mocha/espresso-scented toasty oak rounds out the finish. This is a take-no-prisoners rendition of Geyserville that will definitely benefit from some sideways time in the cellar.

Ridge

Ridge

Named after the historic vineyard area of Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains has been a byword for fine Californian wine since the early 1960s. Ridge shot to fame in the fabled 1976 Judgement of Paris. It was at this groundbreaking blind tasting that the 1971 Ridge Monte Bello was pitted against some of the most revered First Growths of Bordeaux. It placed fifth. (NB: in a re-enactment of the same tasting held in 2006, Monte Bello 1971 placed first.)

Under legendary winemaker Paul Draper, Ridge Vineyards became renowned for the exceptional quality of its single-vineyard wines. Though Draper has now retired, the estate continues to produce terroir-focused wines with the same commitment to organic farming and traditional winemaking techniques. From the fine Bordeaux blends and Chardonnays of Monte Bello to the Zinfandels of Lytton Springs and Geyserville in Sonoma, and all points in between, Ridge Vineyards remains one of the most celebrated names in California wine.
