100% single vineyard Cabernet Franc from the prestigious Guado al Tasso estate in Bolgheri. The 2011 vintage is a wonderfully concentrated red. Intense and complex on the nose with notes of chocolate, blackcurrants, and blackberries along with varietal aromas which confer a unique personality. Rich, silky, and deep on the palate.
- Bright, deep ruby-red. Knockout nose offers red cherry, grilled herbs, smoke, aromatic herbs and minerals. Juicy and vibrant, displaying outstanding inner-mouth perfume and energy to the red and dark fruit flavors. Finishes smooth and long, with sneaky concentration and complexity. This wine spent 18 months in 100% new oak but you really can’t tell. Yet another pure cabernet franc now being made on the Tuscan Coast; only a few years ago you could find Paleo by Le Macchiole and little else. I should note that I like the 2011 Matarocchio better than the 2011 Guado al Tasso, which, though also outstanding, is similar to many other warm-weather Bordeaux blends made around the world; by contrast, cabernet franc from the Tuscan Coast is a truly unique wine.

Antinori

Antinori

While technically a wine rather than a winery, Marchesi Antinori's flagship red wine, Supertuscan Tignanello, has become an icon in its own right. Produced from the Tignanello estate, this wine is one of Italy’s most recognized and celebrated fine wines. Tignanello is a blend of mostly Sangiovese wines with lesser parts Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, showcasing the Antinori family's mastery in winemaking.

Situated in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the gently rolling hillsides between the Greve and Pesa river valleys, the Tenuta Tignanello vineyard produces these influential wines. Tignanello was the first Sangiovese to be aged in barriques, the first contemporary red wine blended with untraditional varieties (specifically Cabernet), and one of the first red wines in the Chianti Classico region not to use white grapes. This innovation has made it a modern red wine that stands out among its peers.

The Antinori estate also produces a superb Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon Grappa, a full-bodied Bordeaux-style red called Guado al Tasso, and delicate yet refined white wines from Castello della Sala, adding to its portfolio of iconic wines. The legacy of the Antinori family is evident in every bottle of these exceptional Italian wines.
