Miguel Angel de Gregorio, the proprietor of Finca Allende, grew up in Rioja and was heavily influenced by his father, who was the head viticulturist at the Ygay estate of Marques de Murrieta. He established his own project in 1994 and has since become known as one of the finest winemakers in the region. Martires is made from 100% local white variety, Viura, from a single vineyard in Briones that was planted in 1970. This is a rich and textural wine having been fermented and matured in French oak barrels yet exhibits beautiful natural freshness and intriguing aromatic complexity. A superb alternative to high quality white Burgundy, this is now at peak for drinking and would be excellent with white fish dishes.
