Luce Marchesi di Frescobaldi 2006 is a mature-vintage Supertuscan blend from the Brunello di Montalcino appellation of Tuscany. Originating from a joint venture between Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi Winery in California, Luce was the first wine from Montalcino to be made by blending Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. It sought to pair the roundness and softness of Merlot with the elegance and structure of Sangiovese. 2006 is widely regarded as one of the most successful vintages of this seminal Supertuscan. "It displays a splendid, deep, dense and complex nose, offering black cherry, blackberry, floral and peppery notes. It is now monolithic and much less evolved than the 2007 or 2008, revealing ripe fruit, vibrant acidity and firm, muscular tannins, with a long, savoury and mineral aftertaste." Wine Spectator, 2013
