A beautiful Single Vineyard release from JCP Maltus, established in 2005. Composed of 80% Merlot and 20% Cabernet Franc, the 2018 showcases marvellous blackcurrant character on the nose together with elegant mineral character. Full bodied and multi-layered on the palate. A lovely expression of the Saint-Émilion terroir.
The 2018 Le Carré still has a captivating floral bouquet of iris and violet aromas on the delineated nose, all harmonious and very pure. The palate is medium-bodied and very cohesive with a fine bead of acidity. It has developed a subtle citrus element, hints of blood orange emerging toward the finish, and residues of fennel and sage lingering on the aftertaste. This is a very fine Le Carré from Jonathan Maltus that should drink well for 12–15 years. Excellent. - Neil Martin
