Château Fonréaud is a property located in Listrac-Médoc, situated in the Haut-Médoc wine region to the north of Bordeaux city. The estate is known for producing a range of wines under the Fonréaud label, which includes the ‘Château Fonréaud’, their Grand Vin, and a white wine known as ‘Le Cygne’, composed of Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, and Muscadelle. The winemaking process typically involves ageing the wine on the fine lees, with regular bâtonnage stirring to fully reveal the complexity of the ripe grapes. ‘Le Cygne’ is bottled just before the summer, allowing it to maintain the freshness of Muscadelle aromas over the years, which in turn helps mellow the exuberance of the Sauvignon.
The 2022 Le Cygne lacks the personality that the previous vintage showed and comes across a bit anonymous. The palate is well-balanced with tropical notes on the entry—quite a "fat" white Bordeaux, with a slightly saccharine finish.
