Craggy Range Sophia 2014 is a medium-bodied, single-vineyard Bordeaux blend from the Hawke`s Bay sub-region of Martinborough, New Zealand. Part of the Prestige Collection, Sophia is essentially the flagship Bordeaux blend of the Craggy Range estate and is produced entirely from the estate`s Gimblett Gravels vineyard. The 2014 is a Merlot-dominant blend and spent 16 months maturing in 40% new French oak. "This has an impressive floral, violet-like nose, showing plenty of saturated mulberry and blueberry fruits, some wet concrete/stony notes as well as chocolate and a mellow, cedary oak layer. The palate has fine, smooth and glossy tannins, which allow this to build well and rise through the finish for now. A concentrated wine that’s saturated with dark-fruit flavours and a long, classy finish." James Suckling, 2017
