A release from Consolation Wines, a joint project of UK wine merchant Simon Coulshaw and winemaker Philippe Gard of Domaine Gardies in the Roussillon. The unusual name ‘Dog Strangler’ is inspired by the local nickname for the Mourvèdre grape variety, which is known to produce wines with intense tannins that can be quite powerful, as if it could ‘strangle a dog’. The wine is made from 100% Mourvèdre grapes, which are hand-harvested from old vines grown in the rocky, limestone-rich soils of the region. The grapes are fermented using wild yeasts, and the wine is aged in oak barrels to develop its complexity and flavour profile.
