Formed in 1968 by Jacques Seysses, Domaine Dujac has grown from 5 to 17.5 hectares over the past 50 years. The estate is now run by Jacques’ two sons, Jérémy and Alec, and his daughter-in-law Diana Snowden Seysses, who was born and raised in Napa Valley. This release is the domaine’s 1993 Clos de la Roche, where they own nearly 2 hectares scattered across six parcels. The wine is deep and pure at the core, with its full-bodied format both vibrant and earth-driven. Drinking well now.

The 1993 Clos-de-la-Roche Grand Cru has an exquisite bouquet, very well defined with cranberry, crushed stone and undergrowth scents. Perhaps I would have liked to see more fruit. The palate shows quite a bit of stem addition. There is certainly some hardness here compared to other 1993s, so it does not translate the elegance of the vintage. But it feels long and grippy, the finish a little austere but fresh. I doubt this will improve with continued bottle age but should last another decade. Tasted at the Burgfest evening dinner. - Neil Martin

Domaine Dujac

Domaine Dujac

Founded in the late 1960s by Jacques Seysses, who purchased and renovated Domaine Graillet in Morey-St-Denis. The estate is currently run by Jacques' sons Jeremy and Alec, who farm around 17 hectares of vines across the Côte including holdings in Echezeaux, Clos de la Roche, Charmes-Chambertin and Bonnes Mares.

A natural approach is taken in the vineyard and cellar with the estate moving from organic farming to fully biodynamic in the mid 2000s, receiving their certification in 2011. The team's focus is on elegance - temperatures are controlled to keep alcohol in check and also limit malolactic fermentation while juice from the crush is fed into the cellar by gravity only without the use of pumping. The wines of Domaine Dujac represent pure, balanced expressions of their respective terroirs.
