Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape is one of the iconic red wines of the Southern Rhône Tracing its history back to 1549, when Pierre de Beaucastel purchased his first plot of Coudoulet vines, the estate has been operated since 1909 by successive generations of the Perrin family. Beaucastel continues to reside among the elite producers of the region, with each new vintage crafting terroir red wines which harness the complementary characteristics of the appellation`s 13 traditional grape varieties. The 1970 Rhône Valley vintage was extremely good, particularly for the southern Rhône, which produced bright, balanced and very long-lived wines. "This ancient wine seemed to be in the prime of life. Sweet, jewel bright. Very evolved, complex with untamed sort of flavours. Rich and satisfying yet with admirable freshness." Jancis Robinson, 2009
