Based in Chambolle-Musigny, Hudelot-Baillet is a bit of a hidden gem that has gained a strong reputation over the past few years. Founded in 1981 by Joël Hudelot, the Domaine is currently led by his son-in-law, Dominique Leguen, who had been working at the estate since 1998. This release comes from the Premier Cru Le Cras, where Hudelot-Baillet owns a 0.37-hectare plot. The wines here tend to be racy and mineral, with plenty of personality.
The 2021 Chambolle-Musigny Les Cras 1er Cru has a lively black cherry, cassis and wild strawberry scented bouquet, more floral than the Les Charmes. The palate is generous on the entry with supple tannins, lightly spiced, slightly high-toned on the finish with a long black pepper and thyme tinged aftertaste. Excellent, but it will need some bottle age. - Neil Martin
