Brunello di Montalcino Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta 2013

HED77003 75cl 14.5%
Gaja Pieve Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino 2013 is a full-bodied Sangiovese red wine from the Montalcino sub-region of Tuscany, central Italy. Crafted from a meticulous selection of grapes sourced from the Rennina and Sugarille vineyards, along with those from Torrenieri, Gaja Santa Restituta Brunello di Montalcino exemplifies a harmonious Brunello blend. The Rennina and Sugarille vineyards boast a clay-calcareous soil enriched with substantial quantities of galestro, a rocky, schistous clay soil, while Torrenieri`s terrain consists of a blend of clay, silt, and sand. "Aromas of red cherry, blackberry, liquorice and minerals. Juicy and tightly wound but pliant, offering smooth black and red fruit flavours complicated by liquorice and fresh herbs. Classically dry and long, finishing with supple but firm tannins and a bright floral element. It’s hard to argue with this entry-level Brunello’s quality. I find it to be slightly underrated in many vintages, as all the attention is focused on Gaja’s two top Brunellos, the Rennina and the Sugarille. But this non-cru Brunello offers lots of high-quality wine for the price." Vinous, 2018

Gaja

The Gaja Winery was founded in 1859 by Giovanni Gaja and has been owned and operated by five generations of the Gaja family. One of Italy’s most renowned and dynamic wineries, Gaja first established its world-class reputation with the powerful reds it produced in the region of Piemonte in Northwestern Italy.

A key figure was Angelo Gaja, who took over the running of the estate in 1970 and sought to showcase the best that the Nebbiolo grape could produce with stellar Barolo and Barbaresco wines. The estate produces unique white wines too, such as the marvellous single varietal Sauvignon Blanc, Alteni di Brassica.

Gaja is also a leading name in Tuscany, having diversified into the production of Brunello and Super Tuscan wines. The Gaja family have owned the Pieve Santa Restituta estate since 1994 from which they produce two single-vineyard Brunello di Montalcino wines, Rennina and Sugarille. In 1996, Angelo Gaja purchased the Ca’Marcanda estate in Bolgheri.
