Barolo Riserva Giacomo Borgogno 1947

HED98235 75cl 13%
Giacomo Borgogno Barolo Riserva 1947 is a fully mature Nebbiolo red wine from the Piedmont region of northern Italy. Founded in 1761, Borgogno is the oldest continuously operating winery in Barolo. In the vintages where the weather permits, Borgogno selects the best grapes from their most important crus Cannubi, Liste and Fossat to produce this flagship wine. Spontaneous fermentation occurs in cement tanks at low temperatures, followed by a submerged cap maceration which, in some cases, could take up to 50 days. "For fun, I decide to open the 1947 Borgogno Barolo, a much, much humbler wine, but one I thought would be interesting to taste next to the de Vogüé. The Borgogno had one previous owner, and the condition of the bottle is remarkable. It isn`t a great wine, but there is a purity and frankness to the fruit that is striking in its beauty. This wine was tasted at the Fourth Annual Truffle Charity Dinner in November 2011." Vinous, 2012
