Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Asili 2011 is a full-bodied, single-vineyard Nebbiolo red wine from the Barbaresco appellation of Piedmont, northern Italy. A much-admired Barbaresco co-operative, Produttori del Barbaresco was founded in 1958 by a group of 19 winegrowers . The co-op now boasts 50 members who cultivate about 100 hectares of vineyards. Production focuses on traditional winemaking practices. The wines are fermented in large oak casks and undergo extended maceration. Ageing takes place in large Slavonian oak barrels for an extended period. On the 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Asili. "Aromas of lavender, blackberry and and slate follow through to a medium body, ultra-fine tannins and a pretty, berry, dark chocolate and spice undertone. Superb finesse and class." James Suckling, 2016
The 2011 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is one of the most refined wines in this range. Here the fruit shows more distinctly red-toned notes, with plenty of Asili creaminess, silkiness and overall texture, not to mention considerable density. There is plenty of Asili sexiness and radiance, but at the same time, there is also more tannin and overall brightness than I expected. Not that those things are bad. Far from it. I imagine the 2011 will reward readers with many years of exceptional drinking. This is one of the most polished wines in the range of 2011 Riservas. Then again, it`s Asili. - Antonio Galloni
