Alongside its more famous Piedmont neighbour, Barbaresco is one of the great wines of northwestern Italy. Though made from the same noble grape, Nebbiolo, Barbaresco has a slightly warmer and drier microclimate, often producing wines that are less tannic and powerful, yet still retaining the wonderful natural aromatic complexity and acidity of the variety. 1967 is generally considered one of the finest vintages of the decade and many well-stored examples are still drinking superbly.
