Il Velluto Meroni Amarone 1998 is a mature-vintage passito-style red wine from the Amarone della Valpolicella appellation of Veneto, northern Italy. Produced from a blend of the traditional Amarone varieties, Corvina, Corvinone, Rondinella and Molinara, this wine spent more than three years maturing in Slavonian oak casks followed by a further period of bottle aging ahead of release. Amarones are of course renowned for their long and graceful ageing, and this one from the 1998 vintage is at the perfect stage of maturity.
