Royal Brackla - Cask Offer
About the distillery
Royal Brackla Distillery was founded in 1812 by Captain William Fraser near Cawdor in the Scottish Highlands. It became the first Scotch whisky to be granted a Royal Warrant, awarded in 1833 by King William IV, a rare distinction shared by only three distilleries. This prestigious status elevated Royal Brackla’s reputation, solidifying its place as a whisky of regal standing. Over the years, ownership transitioned through various hands before being acquired by John Dewar & Sons, a subsidiary of Bacardi Limited. The distillery has played a key role in producing malt whisky for Dewar’s blends while also establishing itself as a producer of high-quality single malts.
Production techniques
Royal Brackla’s production is rooted in traditional Highland whisky-making methods, enhanced by its distinctive use of first-fill Oloroso sherry casks for maturation. This approach imparts a rich, fruity, and nutty character to the whisky, setting it apart from many other Highland malts. The distillery’s production process includes the use of Oregon pine washbacks for fermentation, which encourage the development of fruity esters. Distillation takes place in copper pot stills fitted with boil balls, which increase reflux and create a lighter, more refined spirit. Water from the nearby Cawdor Burn is integral to the process, lending a distinct Highland character to the whisky.
The offer
We're delighted to offer two cask types for those looking to invest in a cask of Royal Brackla. Both are hogshead size, filled with roughly 225 litres of new make spirit.
Refill bourbon hogsheads - offering subtle wood influence, enhancing fruity, malty notes with hints of vanilla, honey, and gentle oak.
Fresh sherry hogsheads - imparting rich flavours of dried fruits, nuts, and warm spices, producing a darker, more robust whisky.
Both casks include three years free storage and comprehensive insurance at Braeside Bond.
