Veuve Clicquot Reserve Rose Magnum 1989

HED1843 150cl 12%
Veuve Clicquot Reserve Rosé 1989 is a vintage rosé Champagne from the house of Clicquot based in Reims. Founded in 1772, Veuve Clicquot is one of the largest Grande Marque Champagne houses. The celebrated Madame Clicquot – La Grande Dame de Champagne – is credited with many winemaking innovations during her tenure as head of the house in the early 1800s – including the creation of vintage-dated Champagnes. Producer note. "1989 marked the return of the hot, dry vintages, similar to the legendary 1945, 1959 and 1964. The 1989 Rosé Reserve is based on the same blend as the 1989 Vintage Reserve. 67% Pinot noir, from the Montagne de Reims and the Grande Vallée de la Marne, and 33% Chardonnay from the Côte des Blancs. The addition of 12.8% red wine from the Bouzy Pinot noir of the same vintage completed the blend. The colour is a delicate pink. The bead is persistent and fine. The initial nose is very pleasant, in a tertiary register on roasted notes, reminiscent of mocha and cocoa. The full bouquet comes to light on pastries. These notes develop into more complex aromas, with a mineral taste typical of red wines from Champagne. The bouquet is very mild, which is due to the fine maturity of the vintage, and preserves all its finesse. On the palate, there is an explosion of wild fruits (strawberries), emphasising the impression of structure and freshness, whereas the aromas of citrus fruit and candied figs bring out the silky acidity of the wine. The overall impression is one of generosity, with a very mild finish on dried fruits (Pecan nuts)."

Veuve Clicquot

Founded in Reims in 1772, Veuve Clicquot is one of the largest Champagne houses. The famous Madame Clicquot is credited with many innovations during her tenure as head of the house in the early 1800s - introducing vintage-dated Champagne, inventing the process of riddling to ensure a clearer wine and developing the rosé Champagne produced through blending. Madame Clicquot is also credited with helping to popularise Champagne with high society in Europe during the Napoleonic wars.

The non-vintage is fresh and crisp with ripe fruit balancing citrussy zing while the vintage offerings are richer, fuller and more complex with notes of toasted brioche, almond and crushed green apple. La Grande Dame is the house's prestige cuvée - made only in exceptional years, the Champagne is produced using wines selected from Veuve Clicquot's Grand Cru vineyard holdings.
