In the early 1990s, Daniel and Florence Cathiard managed a remarkable transformation of Château Smith Haut Lafitte, crafting wines of distinctive character. Harmoniously blending classic earthy Graves flavors with the allure of silky, seductive new oak from their in-house cooperage, their wines stand as unique expressions. Spanning across a 67-hectare vineyard, the estate boasts 62% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 1% Petit Verdot, and a touch of Cabernet Franc. The 1981 vintage in Bordeaux is generally regarded as good, despite the challenges posed by varying weather conditions throughout the growing season.
