Sine Qua Non is one of the most famous cult wineries in the world and winemaker, Manfred Krankl, is celebrated for crafting tiny quantities of unique Rhône-inspired wines from exceptional vineyards across the Californian Central Coast. Jusqu’à L’Os is an extended barrel-aged Grenache from the estate-owned 11 Confessions Vineyard.

With small portions of Syrah and Petite Sirah also blended in, this is a deep and inky release with incredibly pure aromas of blackberry, raspberry and black cherry with wonderful hints of dried flowers, exotic spices, wild herbs and woodsmoke. Silky and lush on the palate, pixelated tannins provide ample structure and drive, with perky acidity giving vibrancy and freshness. Only 868 cases produced.

A darker, more potent side of Grenache comes through in the 2013 Grenache Jusqu`à l`Os. This powerhouse wine is nowhere near ready to drink. Swaths of tannin enshroud a core of plum, dark fruit in this muscular, brooding Grenache from Sine Qua Non. Readers will have to be patient. The 2013 is 79% Grenache, 18% Syrah and 3% Petite Sirah, all from Eleven Confessions, done with 89% whole clusters. - Antonio Galloni - A darker, more potent side of Grenache comes through in the 2013 Grenache Jusqu'à l'Os. Sine Qua Non

The wines of Sine Qua Non need little introduction. Mould breaking, iconoclastic, visionary are just some of the descriptors invoked when critics and wine lovers discuss this unique winery. Based in Ventura, north of LA, the wines of Sine Qua Non regularly notch up perfect scores from critics while the waiting list for a direct allocation is well over ten years.

Founded by Manfred and Elaine Krankl in the early 1990s, the duo swiftly gained attention from wine lovers and critics for their superb Rhône blend wines, quirky labels and uncompromising approach in the vineyard and cellar. The winery has experimented with producing Oregon Pinot Noir, dessert wines and an array of quirky single varietal reds and whites, but generally revert to producing the wines for which they are most famous - Grenache and Syrah. The wines are generally big and bold, but those who like things cranked up to eleven should look no further than Manfred's "extended barrel ageing" program.
