First produced in 2002, IX Estate is a wine of great power with towering aromatics of dark fruits, savoury herbs, and spice. A powerful blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. The 2014 vintage offers up notes of classic black cherry and liquorice, together with hints of mineral and Provencal herbs. A wonderfully smooth and elegant vintage.
A huge, dark wine, the 2014 IX Estate exudes full-throttle intensity and richness, with big mountain tannins that give the wine its overall shape and feel. Huge swaths of mineral-drenched fruit make a strong first impression as this dark, brooding wine gradually shows its personality. Graphite, sage and grilled herbs envelop a core of intense fruit. A wine of volume and breadth, the 2014 IX Estate is going to take at least a few years to come into its own. - Antonio Galloni - The 2014 IX Estate is the most vibrant of the 2014s at Colgin. Bright acids and beams of tannin give the IX notable energy, which works so well in conveying the personality of the site in the medium-bodied style of the year. Dried herbs, espresso, crushed rocks, iron and graphite infuse the 2014 with tons of character. This is a terrific showing.
