“Pedregal” means a rocky place in Spanish, and that is certainly a distinguishing feature of the small, hillside vineyard on the lower slopes of eastern Oakville. The 2012 vintage is composed of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Petit Verdot co-fermented, aged for 19 months in 100% new French barrels. Showcasing a beautifully dark fruited profile with espresso and graphite complexity.
The 2012 Cabernet Sauvignon Pedregal Vineyard comes across as surprisingly soft, with far less of the explosive energy the wine had in barrel. Perhaps the wine is going through a closed or stubborn phase, but both bottles I tasted were not up to the high standard David Ramey has set here over the years.
