Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet Clavoillon 2005 is a medium-bodied Burgundy white wine from the Premier Cru climat of Le Clavoillon in the Puligny-Montrachet appellation of the Côte de Beaune. Now led by Brice de la Morandière, Domaine Leflaive is one of the most influential estates in Puligny-Montrachet. The estate focuses almost entirely on white wines made from Chardonnay, including four Grand Cru and four Premier Cru expressions. This particular cuvée comes from Le Clavoillon, a Premier Cru vineyard in the centre of the Puligny-Montrachet appellation where Leflaive owns a 4.8-hectare plot. "This changed noticeably as it sat in the glass and even seemed to freshen with its ripe but not really exotic nose of petrol, pear compote and soft whiffs of wood. There is impressive density to the round and relatively powerful medium-bodied flavours that coat the palate with dry extract before culminating in a delicious and sneaky long finish. For my taste this is drinking perfectly well now though I underscore that it should continue to drink well for years to come." Burghound, 2017
- Expressive aromas of peach, butter and vanilla. Dense, chewy and dry, with notes of flowers and marzipan and impressive minerally depth. Classic rich-but-dry white Burgundy, finishing with excellent length. Bottled just two weeks before I tasted it, and more impressive today than when I sampled it from barrel a year ago.

Domaine Leflaive

Domaine Leflaive

Founded in the 18th century, Domaine Leflaive has built a storied reputation for its commitment to biodynamic farming and exceptional craftsmanship. The estate owns 22 hectares of vineyards, including 10 hectares of Premiers Crus in Puligny-Montrachet (Les Combettes, Les Pucelles, Le Clavoillon, Les Folatières), as well as no fewer than 5 hectares of Grands Crus (Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, and a tiny holding in Le Montrachet).

Joseph Leflaive, whose vision and dedication in the early 20th century were pivotal, transformed the domaine into a symbol of excellence. In the 1990s, Anne-Claude Leflaive introduced biodynamic practices, adhering to rigorous standards that respect the natural rhythms of the earth, promoting soil health and vine vitality without synthetic chemicals. This holistic approach results in Chardonnay wines celebrated for their purity, depth, and complexity. Each bottle reflects the rich heritage and innovative spirit that have made Domaine Leflaive a revered name among wine enthusiasts.
