A private barrel bottling of Port Charlotte aged for 14 years in a first fill Bourbon barrel. Port Charlotte is the name for heavily peated spirit from Bruichladdich distillery and was first produced in 2001. Peated to around 40 ppm, the whisky is an homage to the long closed Islay distillery Lochindaal, which shut its doors in the late 1920s.

A bold and vibrant Port Charlotte at cask strength, where smoky intensity meets notes of ripe tropical fruit. The nose offers grilled pineapple and honeyed vanilla, wrapped in warm, earthy peat smoke with a hint of maritime salinity and a subtle funky edge. The palate is rich and oily, balancing smouldering peat with caramelised banana, coconut cream, and bright citrus, all layered over deep bourbon cask sweetness. The finish lingers long, fading from ashy smoke to salted caramel and toasted spice, leaving a final whisper of sweet orchard fruit and coastal minerality.

Originally a run of around 160 bottles, Hedonism Wines are delighted to offer 98 bottles from the cask, presented with a re-designed retro label - a nod to the Islay indie bottlings released to the Italian market in the 1960s and 70s.

Bruichladdich

Built in 1881, Bruichladdich passed from owner to owner over the next 80 years, eventually closing their on-site maltings in the early 1960s. Demand for this distinctly fruity Islay malt was so great during the 1970s that additional stills were added to allow for an increase in capacity. Whyte and Mackay acquired Bruichladdich in 1993, but shut down production in the mid-1990s, with Murray McDavid taking over operations in the year 2000. The 15 years thereafter saw a golden era for the distillery as many superb older whiskies were assessed by the new owners and bottled as superb limited edition single casks. The core range was reimagined and two new labels were added that allowed for more heavily peated expressions - Octomore and Port Charlotte.

Bruichladdich run two wash stills and two spirit stills, producing around 1.5 millions litres a year and a number of local Lochs provide the water required for the mash, cooling and bottling. Notably, Bruichladdich maintain and use an array of vintage equipment, including a large wooden mash tun and an adjustment Lomond still, which is used in the production of the distillery's Botanist gin.
