Petrus is often considered the pinnacle of the Pomerol appellation and is undoubtedly one of the most revered wines in the world. The style of Petrus is unique and in the best vintages it often achieves levels of aromatic complexity, richness and silky texture that others simply cannot. 2010 was a stellar vintage, resulting in a wine with a superb black cherry and mulberry profile, together with hints of coffee and liquorice. A beautifully rich and full bodied red, awarded the highly coveted 100 Robert Parker point score.
The 2010 Petrus has a tough job following on from Le Pin in the sense that it is habitually more introspective, less flamboyant than its Pomerol counterpart. The bouquet is mercurial, initially quite rich and forward but then backing down, becoming more discreet with loam-tinged red fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, plenty of ferrous red berry fruit and a broody finish. This is an intellectual Right Bank wine that constantly teases in the glass. Fabulous. Petrus

Producing one of the most revered red wines in the world, Petrus was the first Pomerol estate to win a gold medal in the Paris Exposition Universelle in 1878. Indeed, Petrus' world class reputation speaks for itself and it is often considered the pinnacle of Bordeaux' s Right Bank Pomerol appellation.

Spanning 11.7ha, the Petrus vineyards are characterised by their distinctive sticky blue clay soils, producing wonderfully powerful, complex wines with glorious aromatics and texture and an extraordinary capacity for aging. Almost always made from 100% Merlot, the style of Petrus is unique and in the best vintages often achieves levels of aromatic complexity, richness and silky texture that others simply cannot. Despite wonderfully warming levels of alcohol, this is a wine that is balanced by beautiful freshness.
