‘Les Pagodes de Cos’ is the second wine of the prestigious Cos d`Estournel first produced in 1994. It is made from younger vines and designed to be a more approachable version of the Grand Vin. The 2019 vintage is a blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 36% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot. Expect a juicy and generous wine, packed with berry fruit, liquorice, cocoa and mineral notes. Available here in half bottles.
The 2019 Les Pagodes de Cos has quite an elegant bouquet with ample brambly red fruit, cedar and light pencil shaving aromas. Quite precise. The palate is medium-bodied with grippy tannins, and fine acidity. Very Saint Estèphe in style, with a dry finish that might put off those seeking flesh and corpulence. Tasted blind at the Southwold annual tasting.
