Montrose 1961 is a mature-vintage, Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux red wine from the Saint-Estèphe Second Growth of Château Montrose. A veritable jewel of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, with a history that dates back as far as 1815, Montrose spans about 95ha of vineyards which are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot. All are farmed organically. On the 1961 vintage. "Blackberry, graphite, Japanese nori and light sandalwood aromas furnish the nose, good vigour and intensity, but it does lose some of its initial impact after 30 minutes. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannin, distinctly earthy in style, especially compared to the 1961 Cos d`Estournel but with a clean, fresh, classic tobacco infused finish. Excellent." Chateau Montrose

Chateau Montrose

A veritable jewel of the Saint-Estèphe appellation, with a history that dates back as far as 1815, this Second Growth property spans 95 ha. The estate produces a marvellous second wine, La Dame de Montrose, as well as a third wine, now known as Tertio de Montrose.

Renowned for the ageability and polish of their wines, the vineyards of Château Montrose are planted to 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 32% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 2% Petit Verdot, all farmed organically. The first wine, Château Montrose is produced as the result of rigorous selection from a predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon blend. Structured and tannic but with all the elegance and refinement of a Grand Cru Classé.
