`Chateau Montelena Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 1979 is a mature-vintage Cabernet Sauvignon from the Napa Valley of California. Located in Calistoga, Chateau Montelena has been regarded as one of true pioneers of fine Napa Cabernet since its inception in 1972. The celebrated team of owner Jim Barrett and winemaker Mike Grgich arguably ushered in a new era for California Cabernet with the first Chateau Montelena wines. "The complex and very vibrant nose offers up scents of cassis, cigar ash, lovely soil tones, a bit of shoe polish, espresso and a topnote of nutskin. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, complex and very long, with a good core of fruit, a bit of firm acidity (from acidulation later in the elevage?) and a long, classy and modestly tannic finish." John Gilman, 2017
