Luce Marchesi di Frescobaldi 2001 is a mature-vintage, full-bodied Supertuscan red wine from the Chianti Classico appellation of Tuscany, central Italy. Originating from a joint venture between Frescobaldi and Robert Mondavi Winery in California, Luce was the first wine from Montalcino to be made by blending Sangiovese and Merlot grapes. It sought to pair the roundness and softness of Merlot with the elegance and structure of Sangiovese. "Takes a while to rev up, but once it gets going it can`t be stopped. Beautifully ripe and defined across the palate, with rich black fruit on level one and liquorice and vanilla on level two. Finishes long, smooth and spicy, with concentration throughout. Probably our favourite Luce to date." Wine Enthusiast, 2006
