Leoville Las Cases 1983

HED66158 75cl 12.5%
While Saint-Julien may lack any First Growths, it proudly hosts two impressive `super-seconds` in the form of Château Léoville Las Cases and Ducru Beaucaillou. Positioned in the northern part of the commune, Léoville Las Cases faces the vineyards of Latour just across the boundary in Pauillac. The 1983 vintage, marked by its good ripeness and well-balanced characteristics, somewhat stood in the shadow of the opulent 1982s that came before it. Nonetheless, Léoville Las Cases stands out as one of the premier wines of the vintage, offering notes of ripe black fruit, cassis, graphite, pencil lead, and aged leather.

Chateau Leoville Las Cases

Chateau Leoville Las Cases

The illustrious 2ème Cru Classé property, Château Léoville Las Cases, has cemented its reputation as one of the most consistent producers of exceptional quality wines in the Saint Julien appellation in Bordeaux. Spanning 98ha, the estate produces its celebrated first wine - a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend - in addition to a second wine from young vines, Le Petit Lion. These stellar reds are renowned for their structure and longevity and are produced from the beating heart of the estate, on deep, well-draining gravel soils.

Two further wines are made from a separate site, situated further back from the river with more sandy-gravels: Clos de Marquis and Petite Marquise. The key varietals that make up these powerful red wines are Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.
