Leoville Barton 2012

HED97417 75cl 13%
Château Léoville-Barton 2012 is a full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux red wine from the esteemed Second Growth of Château Léoville-Barton in St-Julien. This quintessential claret is produced mainly from Cabernet Sauvignon with smaller proportions of Merlot grown on the gravelly clay soils in the east of St-Julien. The wine is typically matured in 50% new oak for 18 months. On the 2012 vintage. "As with most of these St Juliens, the colour is medium intensity ruby with lovely reflective pools. Sweet notes of smoked caramel, graphite and campfire stealing in along blackberry and cassis fruits. Overall the fruit register is dark, with tannins that are perfectly integrated but still present, confident and holding the fruit in place. The same sappy saline minerality that I found in the Gruaud Larose, not generous but enticing." Jane Anson, 2022

Chateau Leoville Barton

Chateau Leoville Barton

Hailing from the appellation of Saint Julien in Bordeaux, Château Leoville Barton has been family-run since 1826 with the famous Anthony Barton raising the estate to ever greater heights in the second half of the 20th century and his daughter Lilian taking the reins in recent years.

A superb quality Second Growth, Château Leoville Barton is renowned for producing old-school wines that are intensely structured and often require extended cellaring before entering their prime drinking window. The estate also produces an excellent quality second wine, La Réserve de Barton, a red wine produced from young vines. Vineyard holdings cover 51 hectares - planted to 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 23% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc.
