Château La Lagune 2009 is a full-bodied, Cabernet Sauvignon-based red wine from the Haut-Médoc region of Bordeaux. Château La Lagune is a Third Growth property situated within the Haut-Médoc appellation. In 2004 Caroline Frey took over the reins of the estate, which her family acquired in 1999. Matured in 50% new oak, the 2009 is a blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot and 15% Petit Verdot. "Softening and become ready to drink, with tobacco and earthy notes, seductive brambly fruits and a rich raspberry coulis. The warmth of the vintage is clear in the generosity of the fruits, but they are unfussy and appealing, and just starting to show some tertiary character." Decanter, 2021
The 2009 La Lagune is showing some brettanomyces on the nose, animally with saddle leather and maybe a little sweaty (picking up on the feral observation I made before). The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, slightly pinched black fruit with a touch bitter and hard finish. Hopefully bottle age will soften this wine. A previous bottle at the vertical showed better. Tasted blind at Farr Vintners’ 2009 Bordeaux tasting.
