The ageing process distinguishes X.O from other Hennessy blends. The eaux-de-vie are aged for a minimum of 10 years in mainly French oak barrels. Absorbing tannins from the wood, the cognac develops a unique and satisfying character that is robust and rich, with incredible persistence. Enjoy it neat, on the rocks, with a dash of water or in craft cocktails.

- This is the original XO, the one that created the category. “From 12 to 30 years old, with an average of 12 years,” according to the brand ambassador. Reddish copper in color. The attractive fruity nose features notes of prune and dried cherry, along with honey and pepper. On the palate, it’s woody, and you get inklings of rancio, but the secondary notes are fresh and fruity, with date and prune, balancing the walnut and antique furniture varnish. Solid quality, but not particularly unique. (40% abv)

Hennessy

Founded by Irishman Richard Hennessy in the mid 1700s, Hennessy is today one of the world's largest producers of Cognac. Situated on the Charente river in South-West France, Hennessy source eaux-de-vie from four Cognac crus - Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fin Bois. The house has an extensive cask library, exceeding 300,000 barrels of maturing Cognac with some of which were originally filled in the 1800s.

Hennessy, is part of a stable of luxury brands in the 'Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy' group, with mergers taking place in 1971 and then again in 1987. Hennessy occupy an interesting sphere in the world of spirits - producing 'everyday' Cognacs such as Hennessy VS whilst also bottling some of the world's most expensive and desirable Cognac in the form of Hennessy Richard and Hennessy Timeless.
