Founded by Irishman Richard Hennessy in the mid 1700s, Hennessy is today one of the world's largest producers of Cognac. Situated on the Charente river in South-West France, Hennessy source eaux-de-vie from four Cognac crus - Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Borderies and Fin Bois. The house has an extensive cask library, exceeding 300,000 barrels of maturing Cognac with some of which were originally filled in the 1800s.
Hennessy, is part of a stable of luxury brands in the 'Louis Vuitton Moet Hennessy' group, with mergers taking place in 1971 and then again in 1987. Hennessy occupy an interesting sphere in the world of spirits - producing 'everyday' Cognacs such as Hennessy VS whilst also bottling some of the world's most expensive and desirable Cognac in the form of Hennessy Richard and Hennessy Timeless.
