After sourcing Cabernet Sauvignon from Trailside Vineyard in the early 1980s, the Heitz family seized the opportunity to buy the prime Rutherford site as their own in 1984. Trailside Vineyard was the start of Heitz’ journey into organic farming and was certified by CCOF in 1987. 1989 marked the inaugural vintage of Trailside Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, which was released in 1993, joining Martha’s Vineyard and Bella Oaks as the third single vineyard wine from Heitz Cellars.
