Gobelsburg Tradition 10 Year Old Edition 581 is a mature, non-vintage white wine from the Kamptal region of Austria. This 10-year-old white wine is part of Schloss Gobelsburg`s Tradition Heritage Series, which pays homage to the style and expression of the white wines produced in the Danube valleys in the early 19th century. The wines are fermented in 25hl Manhartsberg (double foudre) oak casks and racked every three to four months for two years until the wine is ready to be bottled. This particular bottling is a blend of 80% Grüner Veltliner and 20% Riesling, with 85% of the blend coming from the 2010 vintage, 10% from 2009 and 5% from 1996-2008. "The MV Tradition Heritage Cuvée 10 Years Edition 851 is a blend of mostly 2011 with a smaller addition of 2010, in a rough 80/20 blend of Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. Cream, caramel, hazelnut, yeast and Spanish almond nougat all meet on the nose. The palate is smooth, nutty, and serene, almost with a hint of resin, on a frame that is almost all texture, almost all smoothness, almost all smooth nougat mouthfeel. This is utterly unusual, complex, incisive, long and, of course, bone-dry." Vinous, 2024

Schloss Gobelsburg

With a documented history dating back to 1171, when Cistercian monks acquired their first vineyards in Langenlois, Schloss Gobelsburg is one of the oldest wineries in Austria. Gobelsburg owes its reputation to those Cistercian monks whose devotion was embodied by the credo: ‘Qui bon vin boit dieu voit’ – ‘Whosoever drinks well sees God’. In 1996 the estate moved out of monastery hands, and is now managed by Michael and Eva Moosbrugger.

Schloss Gobelsburg produces some of the finest Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners in Austria: most famously from the stony terraces of Heiligenstein and Gaisberg for Riesling; and the more loess-concentrated sites of Steinsetz, Renner, Grub and Lamm for Grüner Veltliner. In addition to these terroir-driven, ageworthy, single-site whites, the estate produces a Brut Reserve, traditional-method sparkling wine, Pinot Noir and Sankt Laurent reds, as well as some haunting noble sweet wines. Also look out for the estate’s Tradition range: wines made using the traditional methods used in the 19th century that offer a true taste of Austria’s rich vinous history.
