Frederic Savart produces incredible Champagne from tiny organically-farmed parcels in the villages of Ecueil and Villers-aux-Noeuds. L’Ouverture is a brilliant three-vintage blanc de noir fermented in a combination of stainless steel and neutral barrels, before aging under cork. It is medium to full-bodied, graceful and superbly balanced, really emphasising the Savart style. Flavours centre on orchard fruit, white flowers and pastry.
Based on the 2019 vintage and disgorged in February 2022, Savart`s NV Brut Premier Cru L`Ouverture offers up expressive aromas of pear, honeyed orchard fruit, baking spices and fresh bread. Medium-bodied, lively and fine-boned, with a pretty core of fruit, lively acids and a pinpoint mousse, it`s an attractive wine that`s showing well out of the gates. - William Kelley
The NV Brut L’Ouverture, 100% Pinot Noir from Ecueil, is a terrific introduction to Frederic Savart’s wines. Creamy and ample, with lovely textural richness, the Ouverture has so much to offer. The breadth of Pinot comes through nicely in this open-knit, engaging Champagne. Red cherry, plum, spice and pastry notes are pushed forward. Some of the initial intensity drops off on the finish, otherwise the Ouverture is very nicely done. This release is a blend of equal parts 2016, 2015 and 2014. Dosage is 5.5 grams per liter.
